With Eduard Th. Masaki and Mbekure Metemi
Mbekure Metemi is Maasai and lives with his wife and three children in a traditional hut in the highlands of Ngorongoro. He owns goats, sheep and some cows. He lives in the traditional and in the modern world of Africa and mediates between Maasai and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as director of the Maasai organization "Maasai-Shine".
For us, Mbekure visited the Maasai in the highlands of the Ngorongoro and reported about their problems in the Corona period: all of the already sparse jobs in the surrounding lodges were lost; conflicts with the wild animals increased, so there was recently an attack by lions on children of the Maasai, three died, one child survived seriously injured
About this, he arranged contacts with a Medical Dispensary in Allalelai, a small medical station in a neighboring village.
In August, Mbe fell ill with covid and had to be hospitalized due to pneumonia. After four weeks, he is now on the road to recovery.
Eduard Th. Masaki has been working as a driver and guide for renowned tourism organizations for many years. He lives with his wife Neema and his three children in their own house in Arusha. Neema has lost her job as a teacher and is building a small livelihood with a clothes store. During the Corona crisis, Eduard harvested 600kg of beans and is able to sell a few kilos of them.
Last year we supported Eduard to rebuild his own safari car, a used Toyota Landcruiser, with which he wanted to start his own business.
Eduard also visited ranger stations in the NCA for us and transported medicines to Allalelai.
